SMART Liberia change maker wins a full scholarship to attend the prestigious Yale Young Global Scholars programs at Yale Campus in the U.SA in this summer. Sekou M.Jabateh from the Muslim Congress High school, emerged as the only Liberian student and one of the few students selected globally among a large pool of applicants to join the Yale young Global Scholars program after a tough application process.

The Yale Young Global Scholars Program is a very selective leadership-development program for high school students from around the world. The program is designed to bring together students with the talent, drive, energy, and ideas to make meaningful impacts as young leaders, even before they begin university studies.
Participants of the Yale Young Global Scholars Program are outstanding high school students from all across the globe who will be immersed in an amazing summer experience studying in beautiful campus lecture halls and class rooms, living in Yale’s historic residential colleges, meeting talented community of fellow students and engaging with world renowned professors.

The program offers six intensive, interdisciplinary summer pre-collegiate experiences for its students: Politics, Law, and Economics; International Affairs and Security; Technology, Innovation, & Entrepreneurship; Applied Science & Engineering; Biological & Biomedical Science; and Sustainability, Energy, & Environment.

While the academic themes of the sessions are different, participants in each complete similarly structured tasks and learning modules. All six sessions give high school student leaders’ opportunities to recognize and understand contemporary global issues, strategize responses, and innovate solutions while learning from renowned practitioners and Yale faculty members in a range of fields.

Sekou is the president of “Student Competition Initiative”, one of the many student led initiatives of SMART Liberia that encourages students to strive for higher academic excellence by awarding gifts to high performing students who in turn provide tutorials their struggling peers in an attempt to improve the overall performance of the his school.

We are thrilled, for the first time, Liberian high school student has ever been admitted into the prestigious summer program. We are proud of Sekou and wish you the very best with the rest of the process.
